BDSM and how to use it to heal past trauma - Healing Through Kink
Pineapple Support218 views1273 days agoBDSM is a lifestyle, preference, and interest that many people are becoming more accustomed to and interested in due to media coverage and social discussions. BDSM has long been used in marginalized communities to heal from lack of dominance, social status, and power. Although research shows that the majority of kink lifestyles do not originate from trauma, BDSM can be a powerful tool to increase communication, consent, pleasure, and joy in and outside the bedroom for those that have been disenfranchised. Join to learn more about how this lifestyle may enhance parts of your life that you never thought it could! Rachael is an empathetic, driven, passionate individual and leader who provides high quality, person-centered therapy from acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR AIP, mindfulness, self-compassion, internal family systems, and strengths-based models. Rachael is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida and holds the title of EMDR approved therapist. Rachael is also a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200). Rachael works with populations that include people dealing with acute sexual assault, domestic violence, sexual abuse, low self-compassion, low impulse control, those with borderline personality disorder, the sex worker community, and the transgender community. Neurobiology Of Trauma And It’s Overlap In Kink - Healing Through Kink
Pineapple Support182 views1273 days agoBDSM holds many useful tools for healing parts of ourselves, particularly those parts of our brain and bodies which were harmed in relationships and power dynamics. The ability to create and cultivate safe, consensual, clearly negotiated play provides a perfect framework for reclaiming power and redefining our relationship with ourselves and others. However engaging in kink as a tool for trauma healing can also cause more harm if not done well. This workshop will provide in depth neurobiology of the intersections between kink and trauma, as well as some basic guidelines and strategies for beginning the use of kink in healing, and precautions to take to ensure more damage doesn’t occur. Your access to your pleasure, and the full expression of your erotic self, often awaits just on the other side of trauma. We can help you find the entrance to that path Angie Gunn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist in private practice in Portland, OR, and online through Talkspace.
